About castle

Igate Castle was first mentioned in written records in 1455, when Idsel Diderik Fitingof sold the village and manor to Peter von der Borch. The name of the manor has changed several times over the centuries. Around 1880, a manor house in the Neo-Renaissance style was built at Igate Manor. The building was designed by Rudolf Cirkvic fon Pistolkorsu family, showcasing a restrained and refined architectural simplicity.

In 1934, the manor residence was purchased by the Latvian Children's Union, and a boarding school for children was established in the castle. In the summer of 1940, it was converted into an orphanage. Beginning in 1972, Igate Castle came under the administration of the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1996, ownership of Igate Castle was transferred to the State Real Estate Agency, and it became a popular venue for weddings and other celebrations, featuring well-appointed guest rooms, banquet facilities, and a conference hall. The State Real Estate Agency managed the castle until 2022.

On August 25, 2022, the castle was acquired through a public electronic auction by Edijs Ošs, the owner of SIA 'Palleteries'. He subsequently entrusted its management to his daughter, Sintija Oša, and her team. With the joining of two families - the Oši and Lāči families - the property is managed in a way that preserves its historical heritage while combining it with a modern vision for development.
